Yesterday is the Reflection of Life

Yesterday is the Reflection of Life

It is impossible to go back and change the past.  Yesterday is so final.  It is over.  It ended last night.  It holds the story of the events that are happening in your life today.  It is history recorded in a chapter you have already read.  It can be boring or exciting.  You are the author.  Today, you are writing the pages of yesterday.

Yesterday reflects the past, just as a mirror reflects an image.  Learning from its mistakes can change today, but looking back and dwelling on “if only” and “what could have been” will only keep you stuck in yesterday.  Make yesterday a learning experience and it will become a springboard into a better tomorrow.

Philippians 3:13

The Apostle Paul said, “This one thing I do, forgetting those things which are past and reaching for those things which are before.”

Practical Application and Assignments:

The pages of yesterday can be filled with failure and regrets, or success and fulfilled promises.  The pen is in your hand.

  • Let go of yesterday. In the movie, ‘Groundhog Day’ each morning when the alarm clock went off, it was still Groundhog Day.  Today and tomorrow never happened because the actor kept reliving yesterday.  It is just as absurd when we live our life stuck in the memories of yesterday.  Life is too short to live the same day twice.
  • Don’t glamorize the past. The “good old days” were not always as great as we remember them.  Jesus used three words to sum up a sad event that ended with tragic consequences: “Remember Lot’s wife.”  Luke 17:32   Lot’s wife was destroyed along with the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah because she rebelliously looked back and refused to move on.  Read Genesis, chapters 18, 19.
  • Embrace the future. You have a choice.  Choose tomorrow.  Turn the page.  Move on to the next chapter.  Don’t miss the next adventure.

“Thus says the Lord…“Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old.  Behold, I will do a new thing.  Now it shall spring forth;” Isaiah 43:18
