The story is told that a wealthy man was being buried “in style” with his Cadillac, expensive jewelry, and opulence of wealth. Someone overheard a remark between two men nearby, “Now that is really living!” Of course, that is not living, but in reality, God does want us to be successful. Real success is measured by its effect or impact on the eternal realm. A reward is a prize given in return for a service or achievement.
The Bible tells the story of a young man named Uzziah, who was crowned king at the age of sixteen. “He sought God during the day of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of God, and as long as he sought the Lord, God gave him success.” II Chronicles 26:5 (NIV)
Hebrews 11:6
“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a “rewarder” of them who diligently seek Him.”
Practical Application and Assignments:
If you think having a profitable bank account, a big house, and a fancy car is success, you are mistaken. You are only using them. Realistically, you don’t own anything you have acquired. Someone else will spend your money, drive your automobile, and live in your house when you are gone.
- Think about it and answer the following questions: How will you be remembered? What have you contributed to the improvement of society? What have you done with the talents God gave you? What will God say about you?
- Live your life by this principle and you will be rewarded with success: “The Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you might observe to do all that is written in it. For there you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” Joshua 1:8 (NKJV)
Jesus said, “And behold I come quickly; and My reward is with Me, to give every man according as his work shall be.” Revelation 22:12
