When you think of purity, what is the first word that comes to your mind? When I asked myself that question, I thought of the word, flawless. Purity is the quality or state of being free from blemish, mixture, pollution, or other foreign elements. Jesus said, “Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.” Matthew 5:8. It literally means, the pure in heart see God in everything.
Have you tried to open your eyes under water while swimming in a lake? You can’t see very far. It is unlike swimming in a pool with clear water. Purity enables you to see God’s portal, God’s plan, and God’s purpose in the midst of the muddy waters of this human experience.
I John 3:2, 3
“…But we know that when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see him as He is. And every man that hath this hope in Him purifieth himself, even as He is pure.”
Practical Application and Assignments:
Impurity results in spiritual blindness. Purity in heart enables us to see beyond the desires of the moment through the portal of God’s eternal insights.
- Read Psalm 51:6-9. Listen to the prayer of David’s heart for purity: “Behold Thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part Thou shall make me to know wisdom.”
- Open the door and walk through it by being honest with God, others, and yourself. In order to open the door to purity you must maintain honesty from your motive level. David said, “I acknowledged my sin unto You, and mine iniquity I did not hide. I said, I will confess my transgression to the Lord (continually unfolding the past ‘till all is told) – then you (instantly) forgave me the guilt and iniquity of my sin.” Psalm 32:5 (AMP) This is the only door to purity!
“Who will go into the mountain of the Lord? Or who shall stand in His holy place? He that hath clean hands and a pure heart.” Psalm 24:3-4
