In the corporate world promotion is all about your performance. In the kingdom of God, performance is important, but character is paramount. The sky is the limit in terms of achievement, when you have both. You can serve your way to the top by making yourself indispensable. If you long for promotion, it is imperative that you understand this principle for success: Promotion is pro-motion. You must be “for” moving forward, and that takes integrity, blood, sweat, tears, a lot of patience, and work!
When God was looking for a new king to replace Saul, he searched the planet all the way to the backside of the desert where he found a faithful shepherd boy, named David. He anointed David to be king and then allowed him to develop his skills to lead. It was fifteen years before his coronation. When it feels like you are at a standstill, just make sure you are still standing while God is preparing you to advance.
Psalm 75:6
“Promotion comes neither from the east, nor the west, nor the south. But God is the judge: He puts one down and exalts another.”
Practical Application and Assignments:
In Matthew, chapter 25, Jesus told the story of a business man who gave three men the responsibility of investing specific amounts of cash while he was away on a trip. When he returned he discovered that the first two gentlemen had doubled his investment. Both were awarded a promotion. The third man was afraid to take the risk and buried the money. He lost his position, summarily.
- According to I Samuel 16:18, God is looking for loyalty, humility, integrity, and faithfulness. These qualities bring the favor of God that qualifies you for promotion. If they describe you, look in the mirror and say, “I see promotion written all over your face.”
- Make a demand on your ability. Go over and beyond the call of duty. Don’t be satisfied with the status quo. Operate with a spirit of excellence and expect to achieve success.
“I will promote you unto very great honor.” Numbers 22:17
