Nutrition is the Sustenance of Life

Nutrition is the Sustenance of Life

You are going to love this key.  It is about one of our favorite subjects: food!  Food and water are not luxuries.  They are vital to our existence.  Doctors tell us, “We are what we eat.”  The continuous supply of food energizes our body to function properly.  It is our responsibility to sustain our body with nutritious foods that contain the proteins, vitamins, minerals, and whole grains necessary for good health.

While many people in the world are starving from lack of food, many Americans are suffering from malnutrition because much of the nutritional value is stripped through processing.  A steady diet of junk food or convenient fast foods in the drive-through can cause you to become malnourished and weaken your immune system.  Learn to enjoy food that is good for you.  What did you eat today?

Genesis 1:29 (NKJV)

“And God said, See, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the land, and every tree with seed in its fruit:  you shall have them for food.”

Practical Application and Assignments:

In order to maintain good health, your body requires daily proportions of a variety of foods from each of the five basic food groups.  Your diet should include 2-3 servings of low-fat milk or dairy products, 2-3 servings of lean meat or meat alternatives, 3-5 servings of yellow or green vegetables, 2-4 servings of fruit, and 6-11 servings from the bread, grains and cereal group.  The body is made up of eighty-five percent water and needs 6-8 glasses of water daily.

  • Check the content label on the back of cans or packages for nutritional information.  Select fresh or frozen foods when possible. Wash fresh foods thoroughly before serving them.
  • If you are suffering from an appetite that is out of control causing excessive overeating, or malnutrition because of a loss of appetite, seek help!
  • Sit down, relax, and enjoy your meals.

“And having food and raiment let us be content.” I Timothy 6:8
