Enterprise is an action word. It is that “go ahead and make it happen” quality that causes entrepreneurs to achieve. It is that daring, ambitious, bold initiative that causes us to take a risk and try something untried. It is the aggressiveness that pushes us into an adventure. It is the gumption or spunk that gives the energy to not only research that business venture, but to take the leap of faith.
An enterpriser is always planning ahead. Entry is the act of entering into the deal and taking possession. It is actually getting the show on the road! However, willingness to take a risk can be dangerous if it is not accompanied with wisdom. Ask God for guidance. Look before you leap!
Psalm 119:130
“The entrance of Thy words… gives understanding unto the simple.”
Practical Application and Assignments:
Get past wishful thinking. You’re not a builder until you build something. You’re not a writer until you write. You’re not an entrepreneur until you invest in something that brings a profit.
- Answer the door. Opportunity is always knocking. Get up and go for it! If you’re still breathing, it isn’t too late. When Col. Sanders received his first retirement check, he realized it wasn’t enough to maintain his desired lifestyle. He refused to allow a fixed income to confine him to a fixed mind-set that he had to settle for less. Consequently, he invested his first retirement check into an idea of selling chicken in a box. From that seed of one small check he built a world-wide multimillion dollar company called, “KFC.”
- Seal the deal. The story is told that a man passing through town asked an old gentleman, “Is there anything extraordinary about this town?” He replied, “You can go anywhere from here.” How about you? Are you going anywhere?” You have the leading role. Write your own script. “Camera’s ready! Camera’s rolling! Action!”
