The Bible boldly declares in Hosea 4:6, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” Jesus didn’t say, “You shall know My love and My love shall make you free.” He said, “You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:32 There are basically two reasons why people are in bondage to sin or circumstances. They are either ignorant of the truth, or they know the truth, but refuse to acknowledge it. The sad thing is that the consequences are ultimately the same.
John 8:44 tells us that satan is a deceiver and a liar. Even in the Garden of Eden deceit was his weapon…Then God came looking for Adam who was hiding. The sooner we come out of the hiding place of deception and denial, the sooner the knowledge of God’s truth will cover us and set us free.
John 8:36
“If the Son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.”
Practical Application and Assignments:
Several years ago the Holy Spirit spoke these words into my spirit: “I cannot be a part of anything that is less than truth.” He did not speak this as a rebuke, but rather as a matter of policy. Truth is not determined by the majority. It is determined by God, alone.
- Tell the truth. Anything less is living a lie.
- Embrace the truth. John 14:6 declares that Jesus is the only way, the only truth, and the only life. You can’t have faith without truth. Your faith is dependent on what you believe. If you have settled for less than truth, you have settled for too little.
- Experience the truth. Those who embrace truth will risk correction. The only downside in discovering truth is that once you acknowledge it, you will be held accountable. It is the only way to freedom.
- “Buy the truth and sell it not.” Proverbs 23:23 This verse simply means, don’t compromise the truth in exchange for that which is fraudulent misrepresentation and counterfeit.
“Behold, you desire truth in the inner being; make me therefore to know wisdom in my inmost heart.” Psalm 51:6 (AMP)
