The Word of God is the Bread of Life

The Word of God is the Bread of Life

I remember as a young boy in southern Mississippi going into my grandmother’s kitchen.  The air was filled with the aroma of home-baked bread.  It made me so hungry I could hardly wait to taste it.  It reminds me of the words of Christ, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” Luke 4:4

Man is a tri-part being.  You are a spirit.  You possess a soul that is made up of your mind, will, and emotions.  You live in an “earth suit” which is called a body.  Just as the body needs nutrition in order to exist, your spirit must be fed the Word of God.  It is the bread of life.  Have you fed your spirit?  One word from God can change your life forever.

John 6:35

Jesus said, “I am the bread of life: he that cometh to Me shall never hunger.”

Practical Application and Assignments:

The Bible refers to our body as the temple of the living God.  Our soul is represented as the inner court of the temple in the Old Testament.  Special “showbread” symbolizing God’s Word and His presence was kept within the inner court at all times.  Anointed singers prepared this fresh bread.  As worshipers of God, we are called to keep fresh bread in the inner court of our mind at all times.

  • Go to a bakery and smell fresh bread. Just as its scent stimulates hunger, the fresh bread of God’s Word causes you to hunger after Him.  Take time to sit at God’s table.  Read Isaiah, chapter 55.
  • In remembrance of Christ’s suffering, break bread with your family or friends and share Communion together. Every time Jesus served bread, whether at Passover or mealtime, He broke it, blessed it, and gave it away.  He said to His disciples at the last supper, “Every time you eat this bread, remember Me.”  God has bread for you today.
  • Place a Bible in every room of your home. Making it available will encourage you to access and cherish its message.  Receive the blessing and share it with your world.

“Give us this day our daily bread.”  Matthew 6:11
