The Blood is the Substance of Life

The Blood is the Substance of Life

Without blood we cannot live. The blood carries the nutrients throughout the body, as well as eliminating toxins and wastes.  When we lose blood we become anemic and weak because it decreases our ability to fight off infection and bacteria.

Similarly, the blood of Christ washes away the uncleanness of our sin.  “For you know that it was not with perishable things, as silver and gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.” I Peter 1:18, 19  The substance of life is in the blood.

Leviticus 17:11

“For the life of the flesh is in the blood and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your sin.”

Practical Application and Assignments:

In Exodus, ten horrific plagues were released on the Egyptians because they refused to allow the Israelites freedom from slavery.  The final curse was the death of their first-born.  The Israelites were instructed to paint the blood of their favorite lamb on their doorpost.  It was a fore-shadow of the ultimate sacrifice of the blood of Christ.  The death angel “passed over” their house.  The curse was only placed on those who were not covered by the blood.  A shadow is a depiction of the substance.

  • Behold the Lamb of God! God began the human race by creating “one” man. The curse of that mans sin fell on all mankind. Consequently, it would only require the sacrifice of “one” man to redeem all of humanity.  Jesus Christ paid the supreme sacrifice.
  • Accept the atonement for your sin. The moment you acknowledge and receive the sacrifice through repentance, you are free from the slavery, bondage, and consequences of the curse.

Jesus said, “For this is My blood of the new covenant, which ratifies the agreement and is being poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. Matthew 26:28
