Thanksgiving is the Password of Life

Thanksgiving is the Password of Life

The celebration of Thanksgiving became an annual national holiday in America because this country was established with the spirit of thanksgiving.  In the twenty-first century, many people are so busy and self-absorbed, they neglect giving thanks even at meal times.

Have you ever given a gift to someone who didn’t acknowledge or appreciate it?  In Luke, chapter 17, Jesus passed ten lepers.  When He heard their cries, He stopped and healed all ten of them.  Leprosy is a dreadful, contagious disease requiring isolation, and yet, only one man returned to say, “Thank you.”  Gratitude is expressed appreciation.  Take time to give thanks.  It is the password to favor.

Psalms 95:2

“Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto to Him with psalms.”

Practical Application and Assignments:

A thankful heart automatically responds with appreciation.  “O give thanks unto the Lord; call upon His name: Make known His deeds among the people.” Psalms 105:1

  • Read I Chronicles, chapter 16.  It is a song of thanksgiving.
  • Write a paragraph describing your feelings after a specific incident when you felt unappreciated.  Ask the Holy Spirit to remind you of something for which you may not have been thankful.  Repent of any unforgiveness or ungratefulness.
  • Make a conscious effort to become more aware of kindness shown to you whether in the form of a gift, service, compliment, or favor.  Habitually show your gratitude and appreciation.
  • Make family meal times special thanksgiving events.  For example, bring a Bible to the table.  Have someone read their favorite Psalm.  Ask each person to state something for which they are thankful.
  • Use the password.  “Thank you” is the password that gives you access into God’s presence, provision, and promises.

“Enter with the password: “Thank you!”  Make yourselves at home, talking praise. Thank Him. Worship Him.” Psalm 100:4 (MSG)
