Temptation is the Test of Life

Temptation is the Test of Life

Have you ever been listening to a broadcast when suddenly it was interrupted with an irritating noise followed by the words, “This is only a test?”   Temptation is only a test.  It is satan’s attempt to get you to become something you are not.  Temptation is a seduction to sin.  Sin is an act of disobedience to God.  It offers you something that never was, never is, and never can be.  For example, illegal drugs offer an escape, but ultimately, produce a prison of addiction.

If you don’t deal with temptation, temptation will deal with you because you will have to live with its consequences.  The Bible is emphatic concerning right and wrong.  God opposes and will not tolerate sin, but remember God is not the tempter.  In fact, He has already made a way of escape for every temptation you will ever face.    He is keeping an accurate record of your choices.  Your decisions will determine your place in eternity.

James 4:7

“Submit yourself to God.  Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”

Practical Application and Assignments:

If you expect to pass the test, you must prepare for the exam.  It is imperative that you understand the subject and complete the assignments. David said,  “Thy Word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against Thee.”  Psalm 119:11

  • Prepare for the exam. If you want to know your weaknesses, study your temptations.  List the areas you need to work on.  Search the Scriptures and memorize verses that deal with your issues.
  • Read Matthew, chapter 4. Learn from the manner in which Jesus dealt with temptation.  Follow His example.  When satan comes against you, quote the Word of God.   “It is written…”
  • Pass the test. Resist temptation.  Make yourself accountable to someone you can trust during times of weakness and vulnerability.  Stay away from places or people who would influence you to fall into temptation.  What you focus on is what you will become.

“I will set no wicked thing before my eyes.” Psalm 101:3
