Submission is the Servitude of Life

Submission is the Servitude of Life

The person who stands on the stage in the spotlight, or sits in the office with a title on the door is often envied because it appears to be a glamorous position. In reality, the status of leadership is that of a servant. To lead others, you must first be willing to submit yourself in service to others.

The disciples asked, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom?” Jesus, who knew where He came from and what He came to do, picked up a towel and re-defined leadership by washing the disciples’ feet. How incredible is that! The King of Kings demonstrated submission with a servant’s heart. His disciples followed Him willingly. Is anyone following you? That is the test of leadership.

Mark 10:45

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give His life a ransom for many.”

Practical Application and Assignments:

Servitude is the act of submitting, yielding, or surrendering to the needs, power, will, or authority of others in the spirit of meekness and humility. George Bush said, “There is but one just use of power and it is to serve people.”

  • Test your motives. Are the favors you do for others attached with an expectation of a favor in return? Forget what others are doing to you or not doing for you. What are you doing for other people? True contentment is found in serving others.
  • Discover the areas in your life that you need to bring into submission. You cannot receive delegated authority until you have first submitted to authority. Authority is always delegated. If you are not under authority you have no authority.
  • Raise the white flag. Sincerely make this declaration: “Lord, I surrender all. I surrender my will to you for time and eternity.”

“…But whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister, and whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant.”  Matthew 20:26-28
