A person who is spontaneous has the ability to act on the spur of the moment. Spontaneity is the freedom to burst out of the routine to discover creativity and adventure. It is the cultivation of awareness that causes you to stop and smell the roses. Spontaneity brings excitement to life.
God created us for “His” enjoyment. He created everything around you for “your” enjoyment. It is possible to become so preoccupied that you drive right past a rainbow without seeing it. A person who is spontaneous knows the secret of “seizing the moment.” Don’t miss hearing the song of the birds, feeling the wind on your cheek, seeing the rain dancing in the street, or counting the stars in the moonlight. Be spontaneous! I am not suggesting that we do not need structure, but life without any spontaneity will rob you of the excitement God intended!
I Timothy 6:17
“God gives us all things richly to enjoy.”
Practical Application and Assignments:
Have you ever sat in a brainstorming session with creative people? They spontaneously speak out ideas both good and bad without fear of rejection. You will never enjoy the moment if you allow fear to suppress and trap you in a prison of mundane habitual living.
- Be spontaneous. Try something new today. Break out of the mold. Change your habitual routine. Explore new options. Discover new paths and leave a trail. Develop new talents. Eat your dessert first. Taste a new flavor of ice cream. Experiment with a new recipe. Listen to a new style of music. Take an unscheduled trip out of town for a day. Try a new hairstyle… Reach beyond the ordinary by doing something out of the ordinary.
- Discover your world. There is a huge world out there waiting to be explored. Enjoy life to its fullest. Life is too short, too uncertain, and too unpredictable to waste the moment.
“This is the day which the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24
