“Satisfaction Guaranteed” is a frequently quoted advertising slogan. The satisfaction we experience in God’s presence is the only true satisfaction guaranteed! Dissatisfaction vanishes in His presence. Because God has placed eternity in our heart, lasting contentment is attached to that which is eternal.
Contentment cannot be received through impartation. It comes through apprehending God’s providence and eternal purposes. It is learned through the lessons of life as we realize our “set-backs” are only “set-ups” for a “come-back.” Life is not a series of accidents. It is a series of appointments. True satisfaction is expressed through contentment in all circumstances, because we trust God with the “out-come.” When you are not content, ask yourself, “Where did I miss the lesson?”
Psalm 107:9
“For He satisfies the longing soul…”
Practical Application and Assignments:
No wonder people are dissatisfied with things. The clothes you buy today may be out of style in six months. Some of the toys you bought for Christmas were probably obsolete by the time they were unwrapped. People become dissatisfied with things, relationships, and circumstances because true contentment cannot be found externally.
- Study the life of the Apostle Paul. While incarcerated and chained in a dark dungeon, he wrote these words, “Rejoice, and again I say rejoice!” Even when he could have escaped, he didn’t leave until he had fulfilled his mission. He said, “I have learned to be content.”
- Never live “under the circumstances.” A thermometer tests the atmosphere. A thermostat sets and controls the atmosphere. When you live life as a thermostat, you can live above your circumstances. The awareness of God’s presence replaces your questions with trust. That is the secret of contentment!
“ …Be content, with such things as you have, for He has said, I will never leave you, nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5
