Sacrifice is the Price of Life

Sacrifice is the Price of Life

The story is told that a chicken and a pig walking down the road encountered a man dying of starvation.  The chicken said to the pig, “Let’s feed this man.  I’ll give the eggs.  You give the bacon.”  What a deal!  It’s obvious who would have to make the greatest sacrifice.

What is the price of life?  The price of good health is a proper diet and physical exercise.  The price of success is the amount of time, energy, and resources you are willing to invest.  The price of freedom in America is the blood of the valiant soldiers who are altruistically giving their lives for their country.  The price of discipleship will cost you everything.  It requires a sacrificial commitment.  On the altar of an old rugged cross, Jesus Christ made the supreme sacrifice.  Jesus paid the price and the price was right.

I Corinthians 6:19, 20

“…you are not your own, for you were bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

Practical Application and Assignments:

In the Old Testament, it was an annual requirement that a sacrificial lamb be given as atonement for sin.  This was a fore-shadow and preview of the ultimate sacrifice of God’s own Son.  Abraham passed the test of obedience when he trusted God enough to sacrifice his son.  The rest of the story is that God provided a ram instead.  God always makes provision in response to sacrifice.

  • Answer the following questions: What are you willing to sacrifice? Are you willing to give your life as a sacrificial offering to God?  Are you willing to trust Him by accepting the sacrifice of the Son of God? “For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.” II Corinthians 5:21
  • God is not only looking for lip service. He is looking for a lifestyle of sacrificial service.  Billy Sunday said, “Give your life to God, He can do more with it than you can.”

“I beseech you therefore…present your bodies a living sacrifice holy, acceptable unto God which is your reasonable service.” Romans 12:1
