Responsibility is the Maturation of Life

Responsibility is the Maturation of Life

Maturity is seen when a person takes responsibility for himself.  Maturity means to stop making excuses.  For example, it’s time to stop making excuses for being late.  The responsible thing is to be on time.  It’s time to stop making excuses for our indebtedness.  The responsible thing is to manage our resources.  It is time to stop making excuses for our bad attitudes.  The responsible thing is to make positive changes.  The bottom line is that it is time to grow up!  It is time to be responsible for our choices and actions.

A responsible person is one who exhibits behavior that is trustworthy, accountable, rational, and mature.  My children are always asking, “When can I have the keys?”  They will be given the keys when they become mature and responsible enough to drive.  It is a simple illustration, but responsibility matters.  Privileges accompany maturity.

I Corinthians 13:11

The Apostle Paul said, “When I was a child, I spoke as a child and I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.”

Practical Application and Assignments:

Chronological age is not always an indication of maturity.  Many adults do not act grown up.  The attitude that the world, our parents, or society owes us something begins in childhood.  If it continues to influence your way of life, it will produce immature adult behavior.  Maturity begins when we start living responsibly.

  • The first assignment is: Grow up!
  • The second assignment is: Grow up!!
  • The third assignment is: Grow up!!! Finish this assignment by going on to the next one.
  • Make yourself accountable for your choices by assuming responsibility for your actions. Don’t blame others for your short comings.  Don’t expect others to take care of your obligations.  If you want privileges, conduct yourself responsibly.

“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of Christ.” II Peter 3:18
