An old proverb says, “Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today.” Human beings are prone to procrastinate, but we are not guaranteed a tomorrow. Some issues are difficult to deal with because we don’t want to face reality, but it doesn’t make them go away.
What are some of the important things you have put off until “someday?” Maybe it is drawing up your last will and testament. Perhaps it is preparing your taxes, repairing your car, seeing a doctor about a recurring symptom, studying for a final exam, or getting counsel concerning your marriage before it is too late. The longer you wait to take the medicine, the longer it will take to be cured. Some delays are insignificant, others could cost you everything!
Proverbs 27:1
“Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.”
Practical Application and Assignments:
Future goals are important, but eventually you have to move past the “tomorrow routine” into the “now.” Planning without action is only dreaming. It never gets beyond “someday.”
- Answer the following questions: What time is it? Is it time to start exercising will power and lose those extra pounds? Is it time to break a bad habit? Is it time to get out of the rut of indecision? The next question is not “what,” but “when” are you going to do something about it?
- Take action! There is no time like the present. Whether it is organizing your closet or organizing your life, go for it! It is better to be criticized for making a mistake than for making no effort at all. It is easier to go from failure to success, than from excuses to success. The determination to start over is a stronger incentive than “almost” or good intentions. What are you procrastinating?
“You do not know what may happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.” James 4:14
