Have you ever known people who constantly go through extreme mood swings? They are either flying above the clouds or so low they have to look up to see the bottom. You dread seeing them coming because you don’t know if they will be happy or sad, mad or glad. Moody people make life miserable for themselves and everyone around them.
A moody disposition will rob you of happiness. For example, the weather report can send some people spiraling into gloom. If it’s cold, dress warm. If it’s raining, take an umbrella. Is it really worth ruining your day? God is your security system, but you hold the key that locks out the thief of moodiness. God will help you, if you help yourself.
John 10:10
Jesus said, “The thief came to steal, kill, and destroy, but I am come that they might have life and have it more abundantly.”
Practical Application and Assignments:
When my sister and I were in a bad mood, dad would say, “It’s time for a DRA check-up.” DRA stood for “dirty rotten attitude.” Attitudes are produced by whatever dominates our thoughts.
- Trade your moody disposition for cheerfulness the same way you exchange an unwanted purchase at the mall. The Bible says, “To comfort those who mourn, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, and the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.” Isaiah 61:3
- Push your reverse button. Wouldn’t it be great if it were that simple? On those days when it seems like you got up on the wrong side of the bed, push rewind and start over. It is a mental exercise. Refuse to stay in a bad mood. Get rid of “stinking thinking.” Someone said, “Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain.” Take back your joy. Take back your peace. Take back whatever has been stolen from you
“When a man is gloomy, everything seems to go wrong;, when a man is cheerful, everything seems right!” Proverbs 15:15 (TLB)
