Liberty is the Memorial of Life

Americans celebrate over 200 years of independence from the hand of an oppressive monarchy. In New York harbor stands a lady with torch in hand, as a memorial to all who died to insure our liberty; and yet today, there are still despots, tyrants, and terrorists who threaten the liberty we hold so dear.

In these days let us never forget these poignant words of Patrick Henry, on March 23, 1775, “Is life so dear or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God!   I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death.”

Galatians 5:1

“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ has made you free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.”

Practical Application and Assignments:

Liberty is the license that grants every American freedom from the tyranny that our forefathers experienced. In the Old Testament, memorials were built to commemorate events of God’s deliverance in order to pass the information from generation to generation.

  • Never forget those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Study or visit some third world countries. Witnessing and experiencing the difference first-hand will cause you to appreciate the cost of freedom.
  • Pray for those who are less fortunate, living in countries dominated by a dictator. Pray for those in the armed forces who are in harm’s way, facing danger every day to protect our freedom. Pray for those who abuse their right to freedom of speech, by instigating riots and propagating their own selfish, divisive agendas.
  • Never take freedom for granted. Ungodly leaders make ungodly laws. Educate yourself regarding candidates running for office and political issues so that you can vote responsibly. Write letters to your congressmen and voice your conviction. Exercise your rights. Liberty is a precious gift. Don’t lose it by not using it!
