An example is a design, pattern, representation, or model of something you can reproduce, imitate, or emulate. A great man will provide a proper example for his children. “The just man walks in his integrity and his children are blessed after him.” Proverbs 20:7
The greatest role model is Jesus Christ, Himself. He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life…If you have seen Me, you have seen the Father.” John 14:6-7. There is a difference between Godly leadership and secular leadership. A leader without reality is a deceiver. A leader without integrity is a traitor. A leader without security is a tragedy.
I Corinthians 11:1 (Paraphrased)
The Apostle Paul said, “Follow me as I follow Christ.”
Practical Application and Assignments:
Great leadership is not measured by perfection. Making an error does not disqualify you from being a leader unless you fail to learn from your mistake. It is repentance that produces Godly leadership. A mentor is a trusted counselor or coach whose example is worthy of following.
- Follow Godly examples. Know those to whom you give your allegiance and trust. When a leader refuses to measure up to God’s standard by example, he loses his ability to lead. If the blind leads the blind, it will result in chaos. Someone said, “The measure of a man is not in how he perceives himself, but how he is perceived by those who know him best.”
- Become an example worth following. Your ability to motivate others is dependent on your faithfulness. Someone said, “We teach what we know, but we reproduce what we are.”
- Mentor someone. I had the opportunity of serving as President of the Student Council during my senior year of high school. My mentor taught me about leadership. I learned that if you get behind a piece of string and push it, it will only get tangled up. If you pick up the front of the string and walk along side, it will follow.
“Godly leadership is a channel of water controlled by God; He directs it to whatever ends He chooses.” Proverbs 21:1 (MSG)
