Investment is the Risk of Life

Investment is the Risk of Life

If you are a student of the stock market you realize that anything can happen on Wall Street today. Some people will gain millions, and others will be starting over.  The psychology of the market is as fickle as the whims of the people who run it.

If you really think about it, everything in life is an investment with some risk!  The higher the risk usually means the greater possibility of return or loss.  The parable of ‘The Talents’ in Matthew, chapter 25, clearly reveals that God expects us to be wise investors and even take risks.  The Bible is filled with risk takers.  How about Daniel, Joshua, Caleb, Esther, or Mary?  How about you? Take a risk.  Bet on God!

Galatians 6:7

“…Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”

Practical Application and Assignments:

In a survey conducted in a retirement facility, the question was asked, “What would you change if you could start your life over?”  The majority stated, “I would take more chances.”  You will never get a return on an investment you never made.  You have to sow “for” the harvest before you can sow “from” the harvest.

  • Study the lives of the risk takers in the Bible. Observe contemporary examples of wise and foolish investors. Learn from their successes and failures.
  • Reduce the risk.  Never place all your eggs in one basket.  Never go into a business venture with someone who does not share your values.
  • Count the cost. Never loan friends money. If the friend cannot or doesn’t pay it back, you risk losing a friendship.  Never invest what you cannot afford to lose.
  • Invest your time and resources in a worthy cause.

“For God, who gives seed to the farmer to plant, and later on, good crops to harvest and eat, will give more and more seed to plant and will make it grow so that you can give away more and more fruit from the harvest.” II Corinthians 9:10 (TLB)
