Interdependence is the Quilt of Life

Interdependence is the Quilt of Life

Interdependence means to connect by mutually depending or relying on another person or persons for support.  Instead, sometimes people withdraw from society physically, emotionally, socially, and mentally because of fear, insecurity, and wounds from abuse.  This reaction will not bring resolution.  It only magnifies the pain and leads to more bitterness.  It doesn’t “make the world go away.”

You may have heard it said, “No man is an island.”  The truth is that we all need each other.  God said, “It is not good for man to be alone.” Genesis 2:18   Don’t give up on people. Allow others whom you can trust into your world.  Like a quilt that is made up of many pieces of fabric sewn together, Godly relationships can bring warmth and comfort into your life.

Ecclesiastes 4:11-12

“If two lie together, then they have heat, but how can one be warm alone?  If one prevail against him, two shall withstand him and a threefold cord is not easily broken.”

Practical Application and Assignments:

Have you heard the expression, “When it rains, it pours?”   It seems like we barely get through one ordeal before we get hit with another trauma.  Crisis situations are overwhelming.  Death, divorce, illness, or unexpected loss happens either to us, or to someone we know.

  • Form an invisible chain of interdependence. Someone said, “If life hands you some scraps start making a quilt.” Allowing others to lend support during difficult times is like interlocking arms, adding an instant multiplication of strength.
  • Cover each other. “Cover my back” are words often heard on the front line of battle. Covering each other provides protection from the winds of adversity. “Hatred starts fights but love pulls a quilt over bickering.” Proverbs 10:12 (MSG)

Two are better than one … for if they fall, the one will lift up the other: but woe to him that is alone when he falls, for he has not another to help him up.” Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
