Hope is the Anchor of Life

Hope is the Anchor of Life

Even the sound or sight of the word “hope” projects a sigh of relief.  What is hope?  The Apostle Paul describes hope in Hebrews 6:19 as an anchor of the soul.  It is what holds us through the storm.  Hope is like the root system of the tree that allows it to bend, but stay grounded.  The storms of life come and go, but the believer is anchored like the big ship. “You must continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the Gospel.” Colossians 1:23

You can live days without food, hours without water, minutes without air, but you can’t live without hope!  Hopelessness is the major cause of suicide. Our blessed hope is that Christ is coming again and until He does we are firmly and securely anchored in Him.

Psalm 146:5

“Happy is he … whose hope is in the Lord his God.”

Practical Application and Assignments:

Hope requires patience.  It fuels your desires with determination to succeed.  It causes you to look beyond your circumstances and not be moved or accept defeat.

  • Answer the following questions: Is your faith being challenged? Do you wake up dreading another day? You can’t afford to lose hope. Hopelessness leads to despondency, depression, and despair.
  • Hope anyway! Hope says, “I expect a miracle because my hope is anchored in two immutable things: God’s oath that cannot lie and His Word that stands forever.”
  • Trust anyway! Hope brings the miraculous to impossible situations. “For Thou art my hope, O God; Thou art my trust from my youth.” Psalm 71:5
  • Rejoice anyway! Hope will put pep in your step, a glide in your stride, and a hip in your hop. “Therefore my heart is glad … (my inner-self) rejoices; my body shall rest in hope.” Psalm 16:9 (AMP)

“So let us seize and hold fast and retain without wavering the hope we cherish… for He who promised is reliable (sure) and faithful to His Word.” Hebrews 10:23 (AMP)
