God designed the home to be a fortress of protection from the attacks of the enemy. He created the home to be an oasis in the midst of the dry, parched places in life. God intended the home to be a model of kingdom living where families connect with Him and with each other.
The American family today has become so busy rushing from one activity to the next that many homes have just become a place to sleep and change clothes. The home was meant to be a place to live. Every goal, objective, plan, purpose, and vision should flow out of the center of the home and then ultimately, return to the home.
Deuteronomy 6:6, 7
“And these words which I command thee this day shall be in thy heart; … and shall talk of them when thou sittest in thy house.”
Practical Application and Assignments:
If your home is not filled with life, love, and interaction between its occupants, it is only a house. A home is not a building with brick or wood. It is about building a peaceful environment with the warmth of love and security.
- Give attention to detail. Our homes express who we are, whom we love, where we’ve been, what we do, and what we enjoy. Everything within its walls from the tone and volume of our voice, to the color of paint, furnishings, or fragrance of each room is making a statement. Make every room as comfortable as possible and then fill it with love. Create a restful atmosphere in the corner of the world you call “your own” and it will become a “Haven of Rest.”
- Give your home a name. What would your family name your home? The Garbage Dump? The Resort? Declare it to be the place you desire to live: The Fortress, House of Peace, The Refuge, The Sanctuary, My Dream House, The Castle, A Place Called Hope…
- Make the King of Kings, Jesus Christ, the focal point and center of your affection and your home will become a palace no matter what street you live on.
“The wise woman builds her house.” Proverbs 14:1
