The Bible tells us there is a literal place called, Hell. It was designed for lucifer and the fallen angels. Jesus said, “The Son of man shall send forth His angels and they shall gather out of His kingdom all things that offend and them which do iniquity; and shall cast them into a furnace of fire.” Matthew 13:41, 42
A few years ago, I traveled to a third world country. During my visit I felt completely cut off from my family with no communication with the outside world. Similarly, hell is separation from God, but with no hope of return. God never intended for humanity to choose to be separated from Him; but because of mans wickedness, “hell has enlarged itself.” Isaiah 5:14
Psalm 9:17
“The wicked shall be turned into hell and all the nations that forget God.”
Practical Application and Assignments:
Hell is the subject of a lot of jokes, but hell is no laughing matter. It is the realm in which satan and his demons, along with those who reject God will exist in eternal, everlasting punishment. Hell is described throughout the Scripture as a lake of fire where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth. It is place of torment.
- Read Luke 16:19-31. Jesus illustrates the contrast between heaven and hell in the story of a certain rich man and a man named Lazarus.
- Study the following Scriptures which specifically identify those who will be cast into hell: I Corinthians 6:9, 10, Galatians 5:19-21, and Revelation 21:6-8.
- Choose God’s plan of salvation. Someone said, “Life has many choices. Eternity only has two.” Where will you spend eternity? “Though hand in hand the wicked shall be punished, but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.” Proverbs 11:21
“How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?” Hebrews 2:3
