The word heaven implies several things. Sometimes it is used in reference to the expanse of space surrounding the earth, including outer space or the location of the sun, moon, and stars. Usually, when we speak of Heaven we are referring to the Holy City, New Jerusalem. Heaven is a place of supreme comfort and perfection…no more sin, sorrow, pain, tears, or death. Someone said, “Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal.”
The celestial city is the dwelling place of God. Its inhabitants are restricted to the angels and those who have obtained citizenship through Christ. It is filled with the Shekinah glory and eminent presence of God, Himself. Its magnificence defies delineation. Don’t miss it!
Revelation 21:27
“And there shall in no wise enter into it anything that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lambs Book of Life.”
Practical Application and Assignments:
For the Christian, Heaven is the place where time stands still and eternity begins. We were not created for time. We were created for eternity. Life does not cease after death. The question is not “whether,” but “where?” Where will you spend eternity?
- Read the description of heaven in Revelation, chapters 21-22. Heaven is the jewel box. Its inhabitants are the jewels. An emerald rainbow surrounds God’s Throne. The foundation is made up of twelve precious stones. The twelve gates are made of pearl. The streets of the Holy City are pure gold, as transparent glass. The walls of the city are a diamond-like substance. A river as clear as crystal proceeds from the throne. The flowers bloom with the freshness of ten billion spring times. There is no night for the light of God’s Glory illuminates the entire atmosphere.
“Blessed are they that do His commandments that they may have the right to the tree of life and may enter in through the gates of the city.” Revelation 22:14
