Faithfulness is the Dependability of Life

Faithfulness is the Dependability of Life

If someone were to use one word to describe you, what do you think it would be?  I can think of no greater compliment than to be referred to as “faithful.”  The term faithfulness encompasses that which is stable, dependable, credible, loyal, sincere, truthful, and trustworthy.  The Greek word for faith is also translated into faithfulness.  Faith is both a spiritual gift and a spiritual fruit.  Faith in God is the root.  Faithfulness is the fruit.  Faithfulness begins with God because He is faithful.

Faithfulness is an important key to success.  It can make the difference between being promoted or losing your job.  It can make the difference between a happy marriage or ending up in a divorce court.  For those on the Titanic it was the difference between life and death.  The ship sank because its officers ignored the warnings and were unfaithful to their responsibility.  Are you dependable?

Psalm 31:23

“O, love the Lord, all you His saints: for the Lord preserves the faithful.”

Practical Application and Assignments:

Faith in God has always been easy for me.  My parents were praying for me before I was even born.  As a child, I realized that even though my father and both of my grandfathers were ministers, God has no grandsons.  Each of us has to make an individual commitment.  I accepted Christ when I was very young and have enjoyed a lifetime of God’s faithfulness.  I discovered that God requires and rewards faithfulness, and unfaithfulness brings its own consequences.

  • Give yourself the following examination: Am I a person on whom others can rely? Am I prompt in keeping my promises and meeting my obligations? Can God depend on me? Can I be fully trusted? If you answered “no” to any of the questions, it doesn’t have to be your final answer. You have time to make changes. Change is the result of a decision.
  • Live to hear Jesus say, “Thou good and faithful servant.”

“A faithful man shall abound with blessings.” Proverbs 28:20
