Depression is the Despondency of Life

Depression is the Despondency of Life

Depression is a destructive, invasive force that can rob you of your joy, peace, courage, and finally of your energy and strength to even face another day.  It is a mental state of despondency and melancholy that will steal your health and drain the very life out of you.  It is like the black clouds that move in suddenly on a stormy day and fill the atmosphere with gloom and despair.

David said in Psalm 42:5 (AMP), “Why are you cast down, Oh my inner self?…And why should you moan over me and be disquieted within me?”  But following this cry of his heart he says, “Hope in God… for I shall yet praise Him for the help of His countenance.”

Psalm 30:5

“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.”

Practical Application and Assignments:

Depression can be caused by a physical, emotional, or spiritual deficiency.  If you have become its victim, the first step to deliverance is discovering its root source.

  • Depression that is the result of a physiological disorder may require medical attention.  Perhaps you need to give attention to proper rest, relaxation, exercise, or a balanced diet.  Take care of yourself.
  • Depression is a feeling.  When it is allowed to control your behavior, it will result in emotional dysfunction.  You can break its cycle by changing the focus of your thought process.  Acquire professional help if necessary.
  • Depression that originates with sin issues producing guilt, anger, bitterness, or unforgiveness can only be resolved spiritually.  Allow God to speak into your life.  Prayer changes us!
  • Don’t allow despondency to dominate your life.  Depression knocks on everyone’s door sometimes.  Read Isaiah 61:1-3 to learn how to focus on the needs of others, rather than yourself.

“Arise from the depression and prostration in which circumstances has kept you -Rise to a new life!  Shine… for your light has come and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you!”  Isaiah 60:1 (AMP)
