Romans 3:13 describes one of the characteristics of mankind without God. This passage declares, “Their throat is an open grave; with their tongues they have practiced deceit; the poison of vipers is under their lips…” I’m sure you have heard the expression, “It was just a little white lie. I know what I said wasn’t completely true, but it was only a fib.” Think about it! When a poisonous snake bites someone it doesn’t take a large amount of venom to produce lethal results.
The same is true about a deceitful tongue. Psalms 101:7 (AMP) warns, “He who practices deceit shall not dwell in My house; he who tells lies shall not continue in My presence.” The only antidote for the deadly poison of deceit is the truth of God’s eternal Word.
Proverbs 12:22
“Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are His delight.”
Practical Application and Assignments:
The Bible refers to satan as “the father of all lies.” A father is one who plants the seed to produce offspring. Anytime you tell a lie, it is an indication that you have allowed satan to become intimately acquainted with your soul. Satan plants the seed in the fertile womb of your mind. When you carry the lying seed, it finally goes through the pain of giving birth to satan’s seductive seed of deception! Even little baby fibs will eventually grow into full-grown lies.
- Examine your heart. What kind of seed has the father of lies tried to molest your mind with? Is it the seed of greed? Is it a baby of bitterness? Is it a fetus of fear? Is it a love child of lust?
- Reject the lies. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you listen only to the Father of Light and the Spirit of Truth. “For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of His mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.” Proverbs 2:6
“You will destroy those who speak lies; the Lord abhors (and rejects) the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.” Psalm 5:6 (AMP)
