Confusion is the Vertigo of Life

Confusion is the Vertigo of Life

Everything in life is not always as it appears.  Vertigo is a condition of dizziness that causes confusion and a loss of equilibrium.  For example, when a pilot develops vertigo, he can no longer decipher if the airplane is right side up or upside down.  If he relies on his own feelings and reasoning, he may crash.  He has to have faith in the instrument panel.

Vertigo is a picture of confusion.  Similarly, a state of confusion     can cause you to become unbalanced, bewildered, and disoriented.  Confusion is a mental state in which a person can lose the ability to distinguish between fact and fiction, right and wrong, and truth and error.  The Bible is the instrument panel in life.  You must have faith and rely on the unchanging, irrefutable, infallible Word of God for direction.

Isaiah 50:7

“For the Lord God will help me; therefore I shall not be confounded…”

Practical Application and Assignments:

There is nothing much more frustrating than feeling disoriented.  “God is not the author of confusion.” I Corinthians 14:33   We do not have to accept confusion because it isn’t created by God.

  • Seek Godly counsel. The objectivity of others can help you re-focus and assess the situation realistically.
  • Confusion can be the result of a chemical imbalance because of a physical or emotional disorder. Seek medical treatment if necessary.
  • Refuse to make major life changing decisions when you have been suffering from depression, sleep deprivation, or going through a traumatic crisis. Always give yourself time to rest, collect your thoughts, and clear your mind so that you can think rationally.
  • Trust in God.   Meditate on His Word and He will bring peace of mind in times of emotional instability. “He that believeth on Him shall not be confounded.” 1 Peter 2:6

“In Thee, O Lord, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion.”  Psalm 71:1
