Compassion is the Awareness of Life

Compassion is the Awareness of Life

The single, most outstanding quality of Jesus Christ is His compassion for the children, the sick, the sinner, the hungry, and the lonely.  Everywhere He went; Jesus was aware of the pain of others and stopped to express concern and minister deliverance.   Whether on a fishing trip or a pressured situation, Jesus demonstrated compassion.  When He was arrested in theGarden ofGethsemane, Peter became so angry that he assaulted the soldier and cut off his ear.  Instantly, Jesus responded with compassion and healed the man.

Compassion is a sympathetic consciousness of others.  It always leaves a warm feeling inside.  Every time you exhibit compassion, you become more like Christ.  Are you aware of the needs of others?

Matthew 9:36

“When He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion.”

Practical Application and Assignments:

Compassion cannot walk past someone who is suffering without caring.  Showing compassion is a tangible way to alleviate pressure, pain, hurt, loneliness, and need.  It demonstrates our relationship with God.  Compassion takes the risk, shakes the system, and makes the difference.

  • Read Matthew 25:34-46 (NKJV).  Jesus said,  “For I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.”….What an incredible picture of compassion!
  • I challenge you to ask God to give you eyes to see what Jesus sees, ears to hear what Jesus hears, and a heart that feels what Jesus feels.  It will take you on an unbelievable journey of compassion and love in action.
  • Allow the Holy Spirit to create in you a servants heart that asks, “What can I do to help?” and then quickly respond, “I’ll be there!”

Jesus said, “By this shall all men know that you are My disciples, if you show love one to another.” John 13:35
