The word commerce is defined as the interchange of buying and selling of commodities, goods, services, ideas, or sentiments. In our capitalist society we begin learning the concept of exchange at an early age. I remember as a small child trading pencils, baseball cards, lunches, candy, toys, and even punches with my classmates at school. Whether you are young or old, you have something to give, something to sow, and something to exchange. A baby can even exchange a smile with you.
Perhaps you are thinking, “I have nothing to give.” If you have a need, it is possible that you have something in your possession you could trade to meet that need. You could exchange an idea, a hug, a product, or even a service.

“What you make happen for others, God will make happen for you.”
Practical Application and Assignments:
“Proverbs 31” is the portrait of an industrious woman entrepreneur. It is phenomenal because during that time period it was unheard of for women to be involved in business affairs.
- Consider her remarkable résumé: In spite of the opposition, she was up before dawn caring for her family. She prudently shopped for the best yarn and fabrics. She made all her own clothing in colorful linens and silks. She designed beautiful gowns, garments, and tapestry and sold them to retailers. She invested in a field and planted her own vineyard. She was an excellent homemaker and business woman. She assisted anyone in need and helped the poor.
- Trade your excuses for a Maverick spirit that doesn’t allow circumstances to dictate your future. For example, when the economy on both Wall Street and Main Street is vacillating on every newscast, some people accept the reports and sink into despair; others expect God’s favor and prosper in spite of adversity.
