There is a subtle difference between the word bonding and bondage. The word bonding implies security. The word bondage implies enslavement. For example, some people are enslaved in their marriage when they should be bonded to one another. They are in a place of bondage where they don’t enjoy each other anymore.
God intended for His people to enjoy bonding with Him and His presence. When the Hebrew nation was delivered out ofEgypt, God brought them out of a place of bondage into a wilderness where they could be bonded to Him. When we become bonded to Him, sin, drugs, or addiction no longer has power over us.
Romans 8:15
“For you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but you have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, “Abba Father.”
Practical Application and Assignments:
Any manifestation of bondage originates with the spirit of bondage. You can be free from bondage, but freedom always requires a sacrifice.
Consider the following list to identify areas of incarceration:
- Addiction: (work, drugs, alcohol, gambling)…
- Mental or emotional disorders: (obsessive, compulsive behavior)…
- Attitudinal negativity: (shame, guilt, fear, anxiety)…
- Victimization: (past trauma, painful memories)…
- Dysfunctional relationships: (abuse, co-dependency)…
- False belief systems: (unrealistic expectations and deceptions)…
- Worldly pursuits: (misuse of money, fame, or power):..
Activate your will. Strongholds of bondage cannot be broken until you make up your mind to be free. Let go of that which is holding you hostage and move from enslavement to freedom; from bondage to bonding; from “I can’t” to “with God’s help, I will!”
Jesus said, “Whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16:19
