Adversity is the Advantage of Life

Adversity is the Advantage of Life

In order to build muscle, you have to break it down.  In order to receive a harvest, you have to bury a seed.  Jesus said, “In order to gain your life, you have to lose it. In order to be first in the kingdom, you have to be last.”  It has been stated that the kingdom of God is a backwards kingdom.  These statements sound like misprints, but God uses adversity to our advantage.

Adversity is described as misfortune, distress, calamities, and hardships.  Someone said, “Adversity introduces you to yourself.” Proverbs 24:10, states that “If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.” Every cell in your body has negative and positive particles.  For every negative in life there has to be a positive close by.  Don’t despair.  You are never alone.

Proverbs 17:17

“A friend loveth at all times, but a brother is born for adversity.”

Practical Application and Assignments:

It has been said, “All trouble isn’t trouble.”  Adversity is God’s opportunity to turn distress into deliverance. “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28

  • Study the book of Philippians written by the Apostle Paul while he was a prisoner in Rome. Instead of complaining about his adverse circumstances, he declared, “…I have learned to be content in whatever state I am.” Philippians 4:11
  • Grow up spiritually! Spiritual maturity operates in faith knowing that God is in control even when the situation is out of control. It attacks the winds of adversity with an attitude that says, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13 Jon Kabat-Zinn said, “You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.”
  • Get rid if the “I can’t” syndrome. Look at yourself in the mirror and say, “Oh, yes, I can!”

…“Thou hast known my soul in adversity and hast not shut me up into the hand of my enemy.” Psalm 31:7, 8
