Adultery is the Infidelity of Life

Adultery is the Infidelity of Life

The divorce rate in this nation is out of control.  The family unit is fast becoming an “endangered species.”  The sanctity of the marriage vows is almost becoming obsolete.  We live in society that promotes adultery as normal, accepted behavior

This generation is reaping the domino effect of the consequences of infidelity.  There is no fast forward button to by-pass the consequences of sin.  Forgiveness removes the penalty, but it doesn’t delete the evitable pain that subsequently follows unfaithfulness.  The Ten Commandments are invaluable significant restrictions and fences instituted by God for our protection.  “Grass isn’t greener because it is on the other side of the fence.”  Don’t find out the hard way!  Choose faithfulness.

Exodus 20:14

The Seventh Commandment is: “Thou shall not commit adultery!”

Practical Application and Assignments:

Adulterous affairs are doomed for failure because they are conceived out of lust, rather than love.  Forbidden fruit carries a seductive physical fatal attraction.  Those captivated by its enticement become mesmerized by its spell.

  • Don’t entertain temptation. “You can’t keep a bird from landing on your head, but you can keep it from building a nest.” Jesus said, “Everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Matthew 5:28 (AMP)   If you don’t dismiss temptation, it will eventually seduce you.
  • Don’t get caught in the trap of justifying infidelity and immorality. Someone said, “Two wrongs don’t make a right.”
  • Infidelity undermines trust, which is necessary for the survival of any relationship.   Disillusionment, distrust, and self-pity are steps that lead to the door of temptation. Don’t go there!
  • Count the cost. Adultery leaves behind a string of broken hearts and broken lives, including your own. Run from it!

Jesus said, “For out of the heart proceeds evil thoughts,…adulteries, fornication.. These are the things that defile a man.” Matthew 15:19, 20
