Simplicity is the Pleasure of Life

Simplicity is the Pleasure of Life

Because of living in such a complex high-tech age, sometimes we overlook some of the charming simple things in life.  From childhood we are challenged to greatness.  Our parents take pride in each of our accomplishments.  Difficult feats become easy when they are mastered.  We forget that they were broken down into simple steps that were easy to grasp in order for us to comprehend the concept.

Enjoy the simple everyday things that make you smile.  Whether it is the brightness of the sunlight or a raindrop on your cheek, learn to experience the moment.  It isn’t how much we have, but how much we enjoy it that counts.  Little things do mean a lot.  Keep life simple.  Don’t complicate it.  Everything great began with something small.

Zechariah 4:10

“For who has despised the day of small things?”

Practical Application and Assignments:

Nothing can compare with the joy of hearing the laughter of children, the smile of a newborn baby, a touch of comfort on your shoulder, or a look of affection from the eyes of those you love.  If these things were removed, you would receive very little pleasure from the gold, jewels, possessions, and trinkets life has afforded you.

  • Think about it and answer the following questions:
What are the things you would look for first if you discovered that a thief had broken into your house?  What would you miss the most if all of your earthly possessions were destroyed in a fire?  What are the things in life that give you the greatest pleasure?
  • Compare your last answer with the answers to the first two questions.  Did you know your greatest treasures do not have price tags?   The important things in life are free.  The things we think we value most are sometimes that which is least important.  There are so many simple things we leave at the bottom of our list.
  • Don’t take your real treasures for granted.

“A man’s life consists not in the abundance of the things he possesses.” Luke 12:15
