Ideas can be positive or negative. What do you think about most of the time? If your thoughts were publicly projected on a big screen, how would you feel: Happy? Sad? Embarrassed? There are at least three gates that provoke thoughts into your mind. The ear gate records what you hear, the eye gate photographs what you see, and the mouth gate produces spoken words revealing what you feel. What you feed into your spirit and your mind through these gates will determine the kind of ideas you will produce.
One idea can change your life drastically and eternally. The Bible says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” Proverbs 18:21 One idea expressed as a word on your tongue can take you from depression to inspiration. You are one idea from your greatest destiny. God wants to give you ideas, insights, and concepts.
Proverbs 4:23 (TEV)
“Be careful what you think. Your life is shaped by your thoughts.”
Practical Application and Assignments:
Has your creative expression dried up? Have you become so focused on what you don’t have, that you have no idea what do you have? Is your lack of inspiration having a negative affect on your job, your marriage, or your relationships? You need inspiration!
- Read the biography of a successful entrepreneur, politician, inventor, handicapped athlete, or philanthropist. Observe how they overcame their setbacks and difficulties.
- Take a tour of a successful company, museum, or church.
- Start thinking outside the box. Big ideas begin with big thoughts. Creative ideas are conceived through meditation on God’s Word.
- Don’t let what you don’t have keep you from using what you do have. Thomas Edison said, “My ideas are mostly the ideas of other people who didn’t develop them, themselves.” What are you doing with your ideas?
“The very steps we take come from God; otherwise how would we know where we are going?” Proverbs 20:24 (MSG)
