"Clean Up!"

ICEBREAKER: What do you think would be the dirtiest job on the planet?

CONFESSION:  My sins have been washed whiter than snow by the blood of Jesus when He died on the cross for me. My spiritual garments are without spot or wrinkle.  I am cleansed by the washing of the water of the Word. DEFINITION: Clean up: To be purified, to be ready, to be proven, to be tried, to be renewed, to organize, to order, to prune

OUTLINE:

1.   Clean Up My Dirty MIND: Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. (Philippians 4:8 KJV).                                           Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. (Titus 1:15 KJV)

2.   Clean Up My Dirty MOUTH:  But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. (Colossians 3:8 KJV)                                                                        But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:7-9 KJV)

3.   Clean Up My Dirty HEART: Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. (Psalm 51:10 KJV)

4.   Clean Up My Dirty WAY: Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word...Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. (Psalm 119:9, 11 KJV)

5.   Clean Up My Dirty HANDS: Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. (James 4:7, 8 KJV).                                                Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation. (Psalm 24:3-5 KJV)

6.   Clean Up My Dirty GARMENTS: Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. (Ephesians 5:25-27 KJV)                                                     And he that lieth in the house shall wash his clothes; and he that eateth in the house shall wash his clothes. (Leviticus 14:47 KJV).

7.   Clean Up My Dirty HOUSE: Seven days shall there be no leaven found in your houses: for whosoever eateth that which is leavened, even that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he be a stranger, or born in the land. (Exodus 12:19 KJV)

8.   Clean Up My WHOLE Entire Being: Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. (Psalm 51:2 KJV)

TEXT:  2 Corinthians 7:1; Ezekiel 36:25; John 15:3

STUDY GROUP QUESTIONS:

1.    Remember when you were a kid and you came in the house after playing outside all day. Your parents would make you take a bath, clean behind your ears, wash your hair and brush your teeth. Then you would put on fresh pajamas and slip in the bed under the clean sheets. Describe how you think that would have felt? How dirty did you get when you were a kid?

2.    If someone says, you've got a dirty mind, what does that mean? (a suspicious mind, an insensitive mind, a fearful mind, a lustful mind...) Why is it so difficult to keep a clean mind in our society today?

3.    Why is it important to clean up our language as believers?

4.    Sometimes a dirty heart can be as simple as having a bitter heart. Name one thing that can make you bitter in life.

5.    John 15 speaks of branches that do not bear fruit and how God prunes them in order for them to bear fruit. John 15:3 says, Now you are clean (or pruned) by the word, I have spoken unto you. God cleans us so we can bear fruit. In what area of your life would you like to bear more fruit?

6.    Dirty hands can represent hands that shed innocent blood, hands that steal, hands that abuse, hands that inappropriately touch, hands that roam, hands that take advantage of others, stingy hands and idle hands that will not work. How can we use our clean hands as instruments or weapons of righteousness?
