TEXT:  Ephesians 5:1-7

STUDY GROUP QUESTIONS:

1.      Ephesians 5:1 says, we are to be imitators of God as little children.  Name some things that little kids do to imitate others in their lives.  Bearing in mind that little children have a natural innocence, curiosity, and excitement, in what ways do you think God wants us to be God imitators?

2.      Ephesians 5:2 says, And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savour.  What sacrifices do you think God requires of His disciples as an offering of love to Him?  In other words what some things God might ask for you to give up for him?

3.      Ephesians 5:3 says, But fornication (sexual immorality), and all uncleanness (lustful, wasteful living), or covetousness (greediness), let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints. Name at least one quality that should be named of saints or followers of Christ.

4.      Ephesians 5:3,4 (The Message Bible) says, Don't allow love to turn into lust, setting off a downhill slide into sexual promiscuity, filthy practices, or bullying greed. Though some tongues just love the taste of gossip, those who follow Jesus have better uses for language than that. Don't talk dirty or silly. That kind of talk doesn't fit our style. Thanksgiving is our dialect. What do you think is the best way to handle a situation where someone starts trash talking or dirty talking in your presence.  Tell one thing you can be thankful for now.

a.    Give them a dirty look

b.   Just start screaming at the them at the top of your lungs

c.    If you are on the phone just hang up on them

d.   Just laugh with them and hope they don’t do it again

e.    Embarrass right then and there

f.     Change the subject and start thanking God for something he is doing in your life

5.      Ephesians 5:5 (Amplified) says, For be sure of this: that no person practicing sexual vice or impurity in thought or in life, or one who is covetous [who has lustful desire for the property of others and is greedy for gain]--for he [in effect] is an idolater--has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. What are things in the USA that we have turned into idols?

6.      Ephesians 5:6,7 says, Let no one delude and deceive you with empty excuses and groundless arguments [for these sins], for through these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of rebellion and disobedience.  So do not associate or be sharers with them.  Why do you think God does not want us to expose ourselves to others with these kinds of conduct?

7.      How has television changed just since have started watching it?

8.      Pornography has become so rampant in our society, name some things as believers we can do about it. Now do it.
