“What’s In A Name!”

 

ICEBREAKER: What is your favorite Christmas cookie or desert? (thumb prints, iced sugar cookies, snicker doodles, chocolate chip, iced pumpkin cookies, pumpkin roll, fruit nut cake, ginger bread, peppermint chocolate bark candy, candy canes, etc…)

 

OUTLINE: 

I.      THERE IS WONDER IN HIS NAME. “Wonderful”

A.        His Birth was wonderful.

B.        His Life was wonderful.

C.        His Teaching was wonderful.

D.        His Miracles were wonderful.

E.         His Transfiguration was wonderful.

F.         His Death was wonderful.

G.       His Resurrection was wonderful

H.        His Ascension was wonderful.

II.    THERE IS WISDOM IN HIS NAME. “Counselor”

A.        As your counselor He is always available.

B.        As your counselor He gives you His undivided attention.

C.        As your counselor He comforts you.

D.        As your counselor He guides you in the right way.

E.         As your counselor He enables you.

III. THERE IS WEALTH IN HIS NAME. “Mighty God”

A.        Jesus has been given all power in heaven and earth. (Mat. 28:18)

B.        He created it all and owns it all.  The earth is the Lord’s. (Psalm 24:1)

IV.THERE IS WORSHIP IN HIS NAME. “Everlasting Father”

A.        If you Know Jesus, you know the Father.

B.        As Father He is Life Giver and a problem solver.

V.   THERE IS WELCOME IN HIS NAME. “Prince of Peace”

A.        He came to give us rest.  (Mat 11:28) "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

B.        No Jesus, No Peace.

C.        Peace means reconciliation meaning we are welcome at His table in His presence.

STUDY GROUP QUESTIONS:

1.     Of all the names and titles of our Savior, which one is most meaningful to you this year? (Wonderful, Counselor, Bread of Life, My Shepherd, My Protector, Prince of Peace, Lord of lords, King of kings, Comforter, Holy One, Fortress, Shelter, Abba,etc…)

2.     One of His names is Wonderful meaning full of miracles and wonders. Everything about Jesus is wonderful.  In what area of your life do you most need His wonders this year?

3.     Another name of Jesus that describes His ability to be wisdom to us when we need it is Counselor.  Share one question you might ask Jesus if He were physically sitting right here?

4.     The title Mighty God describes His limitless ability and resources. What do we most need from God right now in our country for this Christmas? (Direction, love, respect for one another, patience, finances, healing, joy, peace with our enemies, protection form our enemies, etc…)

5.     He is Everlasting Father.  He will never abandon us or leave us orphans.  What does it feel like to be an orphan? What changes when we accept him as our Father?

6.     Thank God for the Prince of Peace! One of the aspects of peace is reflected in the ability to rest.  What concern in your life is trying to steal your rest?

7.     What name change do you think God wants to give you to be more fruitful in 2010? Patient one, Prudent one, Responsible one, Confident one, Joyful one, Positive one, Energetic one, Healed one, Rich one, Forgiving one, Victorious one, Set Free one…)
