“Christmas Message”

 

ICEBREAKER:  Identify for us any family traditions on Christmas you had when you were growing up & do you continue them today?

(Like what do you eat, what do you do first, do you watch any TV shows, do you read the Christmas story, do you help them poor etc…)

 

OUTLINE:  What’s Christmas without…

·        Lights: No sight, no insight, no foresight

·        Joy: No celebrating, no laughing, no dancing or singing

·        Hope: No dreams, no vision, no life

·        Virgin: No Holiness, no wholeness, no answer for emptiness

·        Miracles: No Baby, no angels, no future

STUDY GROUP QUESTIONS:

1.    The Bible tells us that the angels so lit up the sky and sang praises to God that the shepherds were very afraid.  The Bible also says that we are the Light of the world.  How bright would you say that your spiritual light bulb is this Christmas?

a.    Super Bright like a radiant spot light

b.   Mostly Bright but I flicker a little during rush hour traffic or while shopping at the mall

c.    Totally Bright on Sundays & Wednesdays but I pull the plug every other day

d.   I need new batteries and I’ve lost my charger

e.    My best talent is blowing out other’s candles

2.    The Bible says that the joy of the Lord is our strength.  What are some of the things that bring you the most joy at Christmas?

a.    Watching the  kids

b.   Eating Christmas cookies and drinking eggnog

f.     Finding a way to serve the needy

g.    Going to Christmas parties and concerts

3.    Even though the economy is in a mess and things are very difficult for many people right now what gives you the most hope?

4.    The virgin birth reminds us that God is still looking for young people with a pure heart that will allow Him to use them no matter the cost.  What has been the most difficult thing about serving God?

5.    I am not offended that the Jews celebrate Hanukah or that the Muslims observe Ramadan.  Why do you think that so many people are so put out by Christians celebrating Christmas?

6.    If you could have one miracle this Christmas what would it be?

7.    what is the best gift you could give Jesus this year?
