Text:  Genesis 39:7-23; 41:1-41; 45:3-6; 2 Chronicles18:12-34; 1 Timothy 3:8-13

Discussion Questions:

  1. Read Matthew 1:20-21, Jeremiah 1:5 and Galatians 1:15-23. According to these scriptures, what qualifies us to serve God?
  2. Servants of God need to be trustworthy.  What does being trustworthy mean to you?
  3. Read Gen 39:7-21 and 2 Chronicles 18:12-34.  Were Joseph and Micaiah trustworthy servants of God?  How so?
  4. Read 2 Timothy 2:15-17.  What character trait does this scripture demand of a Godly servant?
  5. Read 1 Timothy 3:8-13. The greek word for “deacon” is diakonos (dee-ak’-on-os).  It means to run on errands; an attendant, a waiter as at a table or in other menial duties, a teacher and pastor.  What characteristics does this scripture say that a servant of God must possess?
  6. Think of the characteristics of a Godly servant that have been studied so far.  What characteristic do you believe the Lord wants to perfect in you?
  7. Why should we serve the Lord according to John 14:15 and John 13:34?
  8. Why were we created according to Ephesians 2:8?
  9. Do you believe you are serving the Lord as you should be?

Note:  Every Christian’s life and relationships need to be ordered in the following manner:  God, taking physical care of oneself (if you don’t you cannot take care of others), family, (job falls here if it is for the provision of our family-1 Tim 5: 8 states:  “If anyone fails to provide for his relatives, and especially for those of his own family, he has disowned the faith [by failing to accompany it with fruits] and is worse than an unbeliever [who performs his obligation in these matters]”AMP.), ministry, job, etc…  If you do not have the time to provide for your family, you do not have time for service in ministry.  But, be honest, what do you have time for?  TV, e-mail, etc. Sometimes you’ll be surprised how fast time is “eaten” up by seemingly innocent activities.

  1. If you’re not serving, what do you believe is holding you back?
    1. Fear
    2. Lack of motivation
    3. I feel unneeded
    4. Insecurity
    5. Life’s Distractions
    6. Being preoccupied with the cares of life
    7. Other:__________________________
  2. Pray that each person will overcome anything that is holding them back from service and that each will walk in the character that the Word of God calls us, His servants, to.
  3. Allow those who so desire, to fill out an application for service at COL.
