ICEBREAKER:

Do you remember having any enemies when you were in school or on the job?  What were their first names and how did you deal with them?  Do you still wonder about people who have that same name?

 

TEXT:  1 Samuel 30 & Psalm 83

 

STUDY GROUP QUESTIONS:

1.         In 1 Samuel 30:1-3, what did David and his men find when they returned home and what was the name of their enemy?

2.         In verse 4 what was David and his men’s first reaction?

a.      To let out a Zena the warrior princess war scream

(Hint: It sounds like the Middle Eastern women)

b.      To take 2 valiums

c.       To weep like babies till they had no more strength

3.         Discuss a time when you experienced the kind of loss that made you weep until you had no strength.

4.         What has the enemy stolen or tried to steal from you or

your family?  (Peace of mind, job, possessions, joy…)

5.         In verse 6, because David’s men were so distraught what did

they threaten to do to David?

a.      Vote him out as their pastor

b.      Send him hunting  with the Vice President

c.       Stone him to death

6.         The Amalekites’ strategy was to take what was most

precious, to attack when most vulnerable or weak, to

disconnect or divide them from their leadership.  Have you ever felt any of these strategies were used against you?

7.         How did David overcome this attack? (Verse 6-8)

8.         If we remain divided because of disunity or prejudice of

any kind (gender, denomination, social or economic status, race) the enemy isolates us and then he wins.
